Pitch Perfect - Review

Jason Moore marks his debut in a feature film with Pitch Perfect. The story is set at Barden University. Beca played by Anna Kendrick is a fresher at the college and decide to join the all-girls singing group of her college named as ‘The Bellas’. The rest of the movie is all about how they plan to take over the male rivals in the competition held in the campus.

The movie clearly seems inspired from Bridesmaid kind of humor and other movies. The Bellas are trying to win the audience reactions by showing off in bikinis while singing pop but end up in complete irony. A new life is injected into the singing group as an aspiring DJ Anna enters in the campus and joins their group.

Expect the actors to be really good and funny at many places. We have already seen Anna but the supporting cast as well has done really well. The comic timing is pitch perfect as the title says. It might not make you laugh out loud but will definitely make you smile.

The story is predictable and that’s where it lacks majorly. Once into the core of the movie, one can suggest scene by scene easily. There is no need to wait for the movie as everything can be deduced. A hint of romance is also added to spice up things a bit. But it was least important to the viewers. Moreover the subplot of romance was predictable as well.

The script is quite simple and clean. There is no hotchpotch going on as the movie runs at a moderate pace with simple unfolding of the events. The music has gone really well with the movie. If you are a music lover you will definitely like the movie. The integration of music is really worth watching. The funny moments blends in the story perfectly.

One might want to regard it as a chick flick. There is no doubt that the girls are going to like it much bore but it is an enjoyable film for guys as well. The humor though derived from bridesmaid is not at all encircled around PG 13. There is a big bunch of crude humor which should have escalated the rating above PG 13 but stay in tacked with the movie.

But the crude humor is what exactly has made it a good watch for guys too. If you remember watching Easy A, you can co-relate the kind of humor present in Pitch Perfect with that. After a long time, Pitch perfect is the perfect musical comedy that has been released to serve the purpose efficiently. This will definitely put a smile on the face of every age group especially teenagers.

Chetan Bhagat's Half Girlfriend - Review

Blurb Behind the Book
Once upon a time, there was a Bihari boy called Madhav. He fell in love with a rich girl from Delhi called Riya. Madhav didnt speak English well. Riya did. Madhav wanted a relationship. Riya didn't. Riya just wanted friendship. Madhav didn't. Riya suggested a compromise. She agreed to be his half-girlfriend.

From the author of the blockbuster novels Five Point Someone, One Night at the Call Center, The 3 Mistakes of My Life, 2 States and Revolution 2020 comes a simple and beautiful love story that will touch your heart and inspire you to chase your dreams.

Book Review
I am not a Chetan Bhagat fan, nor do I hate him. I pick up random books and this was one of those books I bought at a steal price of Rs.95 from Amazon. To tell you the truth, I bought it just because of the unbelievable discount.

What should I say? Half Girlfriend is a half-baked story if I have to give my review in one line. AS usual, Chetan Bhagat brings in subplot with the main story that bores you like hell and then the whole story is too clichéd and typically written just for the movie adaptation.

But, I liked reading it and was able to finish it off in just two sittings. One has to give that credit to him. He actually writes in simple language and you get hooked with the story. I did not like the guy’s character here. He was a typical needy and desperate guy. Riya on the other hand was a confused character and I could not understand most of her behavior.

The good things were some lines here and there which ignited the feeling of love but they were so random and were unable to maintain the momentum.

Overall, buy if you are a fan of his or you want a light read after reading those heavy literature books by acclaimed authors. A nice time pass at best so don’t expect anything great out of it.

PS: Let's not be too hard on him.

Kim Kardashian - Breaking the Internet

Kim Kardashian - Breaking the Internet
Wednesday, November 19, 2014 by

Seconds after the bare butt photo of Kim Kardashian was posted by papermag, the internet went crazy. Wasn’t this the entire purpose behind pulling a stunt like this? Even the tag ‘Breaking the Internet’ suggests the same. And if there was any void left, it was filled with her bare front picture that came later.

Ever since the dare bare stunt, you can find several memes over the social media sites and the different parodies created by people against it. While many were offended by the nude pictures, some believe it is her body and it’s her choice. Also, they claim that there is nothing wrong in showcasing the female sensuality and rather than being ashamed, we should marvel over it.

I really don’t know what to make out of it. She wanted popularity and that is what she has been getting. No matter if you hated her for it or you loved her for it, all of you have been filling the internet with her news and ultimately promoting her.

So, well done Kim Kardashian. You achieved what you wanted. All of us are foolish enough to promote such an idiotic publicity stunt.

PS: That sure is an amazing booty.

Beasts of the Southern Wild - Review

Benh Zeitlin marks his debut as a director with Beasts of the Southern Wild. It is a drama movie centered on a six year old girl who leaves her Delta-community home in search of her mother after facing her father’s fading health and environmental changes that release an army of prehistoric creatures called aurochs. The movie therefore can be categorized under fantasy as well.

As soon as you finish the movie, you’ll find yourself remarking it to be a gorgeous movie. It will make you fall in love instantly of course with the movie and the girl Hushpuppy played by Quvenzhané Wallis. No doubt the direction is not quite mature. Even the screenplay is quite strange as the production crew was not experienced. The supporting acts were lacking too. But none of the technical aspect can stop you from feeling the beauty and charm of the film. The only reason is the leading cast.

Going by the plot, the movie may sound starkly bleak but the film is put together quite well. It is not at all a mediocre movie. It collaborates as an intense drama which is quite moving at times. The director tells us about the life of people living in a community. He portrays on the growth of children through Hushpuppy who lives in Bathtub. Yes, the places, the names sound quite confusing to be selected but you will realize the importance while watching the movie. The film carries a raw realism all through. The film connects emotionally to the viewers and the direction as well has played a keen role in it. As stated earlier about a bit of amateurish direction, it is noticeable in the elongated shots of the movie and in shots where the fantasy overcame the drama. Otherwise it’s a great effort by him as a debut.

The script is refreshing and touching. But a script is nothing without a good screenplay which is achieved in quite a place. It provides viewers with some unforgettable scenes and an emotional attachment which you don’t encounter in much of the movies. It’s wonderful to watch Wallis in the role of Hushpuppy. You won’t feel for a moment that it is her first movie. Even she might not understand the character properly due to her young age but has portrayed it brilliantly. Even the characterization of Hushpuppy is magnificent and worth praise.

The movie is one of those rare examples where some elements are extraordinary and unforgettable. The direction, the acting, the script and even the background score blends together to make it an experience which is truly beautiful.
